Not DRM, Settings, or Updating. This is my biggest problem with PC Gaming. I didn’t clean my still working launch day 360 at any point so I’m not exactly thrilled at doing this every 3 months. Any tips to avoid this nonsense.

Clean the room you’re in and change the filter on your house’s AC.

You can put breathable foam sheets over the vent areas. That way you can just blow the dust off the outside of the box instead of opening it every time.

Only 10% of people in the UK have AC. I’m not one of them. BRING ON SUMMER!

Pick the case up off the floor, carpets are full of dust. On a desk in a relatively clean room my fan filters only need to be cleaned annually.

I just vaccumed it, I didn’t even think to look inside. Oh I’m dreading the mess.

I mean, your 360 probably looks way worse, you just can’t see it. Better to have all that dust on the outside than on the inside. (If you do get a lot of dust inside the case, look into some removable filters. It’s made cleaning pretty easy for me.
I also moved my tower onto my desk. (It’s a mid)
Being off the ground and out of the dog hair and dust has made quite a difference, but I also live in the desert with windows almost always open, so I get a lot regardless. :|
You could also build a mini clean room for your computer...

It is on a desk. I took it off so I didn’t have to unplug everything.

Stretch a fine fabric mesh over the vents?

Yeah I might do that. It would be a lot more accessible too.

Get hardwood flooring, it looks to be carpetting which is euugughgeh, gross honestly. But nice to walk on yes... Also extra dust filters, less fan suction. use a fan controller to drop speeds when not needed?

Then your room is pretty dusty in general. Clean the room more often and you can clean the filters less often.
BTW, consoles tend to have significantly lower airflow and much less restrictive filters so they don’t gather as much dust on the exterior grills. Usually then the dust ends up caking all over the heat sinks and pinch points inside the chassis. By the time my PS3 is showing dust on the outside it’s already a fuzzy pillow inside.
Having washable filters on your PC case is actually a good thing. Washing those filters every 2 months is a lot easier than dusting everything inside the case every 6.

I lost the vote on that, my room has it and both my Laptop and Xboxes are in much better shape probably because of that. I will defo look into a fan controller though.

Probably easier than getting removable filters.

It’s worth mentioning that if you don’t have 4 wire fans a speed controller won’t work, which is only to say check if you have 4 wire fans and if not buy new ones when you get the controller.
If the fans came with the case they are probably not 4 wire ones, since they cost more.
It is a very worth while expenditure to upgrade to better fans, I personally cant stand loud computers. At idle it should be almost silent and mine is.

I’ve never been in a house with AC.
